Our inspiration for our painting is from the Fibonacci Spiral.
Fibonacci (born c. 1170, Pisa?—died after 1240) was a Italian mathematician who wrote Liber abaci (1202; “Book of the Abacus”), the first European work on Indian and Arabian mathematics, which introduced Hindu-Arabic numerals to Europe. His name is mainly known because of the Fibonacci sequence. The resulting number sequence, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55 (Fibonacci himself omitted the first term), in which each number is the sum of the two preceding numbers, is the first recursive number sequence (in which the relation between two or more successive terms can be expressed by a formula) known in Europe.
For a more visual explanation, point to the spiral patterns of seeds in a sunflower, where the number of spirals going in opposite directions are often consecutive Fibonacci numbers, like 34 and 55, which results from an efficient growth angle.
In our paintings, you can see the golden ratio is expressed in spiraling shells. As stated by JOSÉ MIGUEL HERNÁNDEZ/GETTY IMAGES), our painting areas of the shell's growth are mapped out in squares. If the two smallest squares have a width and height of 1, then the box to their left has measurements of 2. The other boxes measure 3, 5, 8 and 13, (Science).
