We had been working on a title for about two weeks and nothing struck our fancy! Then one day Vanessa was working on the gamboge Hughes #266 (warm yellow), and I had been painting the black dots of different sizes. I said, to Vanessa, the dots kind of look like cheetah dots, then Vanessa said, the yellow looks like bananas. "POW," the title JUMPED at us. There were 1,150 entries and only 170 were selected for display in the exhibit. Over the years I had many friends bring items to my house that they just couldn't throw away, thinking surely I, as an artist, could create a piece of art. While in Blythe California, a metal engineer brought an empty metal spool that had held very expensive wire for his machine shop and said, "I can't throw this away, it's yours to do something with it." Later that summer while driving from Blythe to Redding, California, we stopped at a Kmart for some snacks and walked by the jewelry section where they had a cylinder full of old watch batteries. I asked the clerk what they were going to do with all those watch batteries—this was long before recycling was happening at disposal sites—and she said they were just going to throw them away. I asked if I could have them and she reached over and gave me the whole cylinder full. There must have been 3,000 watch & hearing aid batteries of all sizes. I used the metal frame that was given to me and shaped all these batteries into famous little people, making a very small Ferris wheel that won 1st Place. It was about 20 inches in circumference. When we moved from Blythe, California to Lancaster, California, I requested the California State Fair catalog and discovered there was a recycling section for the Fine Arts. Like many artists, I wanted to see if I was really an Artist, so I designed another Ferris Wheel from two giant irrigation wheels used in commercial fields where they grow alfalfa and other food items. I made more little people to go on the huge Ferris Wheel and created designer clothes for them. It has always been super fun for everyone to try and guess who the famous celebrities were. The Award of Merit received at the 1996 California State Fair/California Works Exhibition was a special honor—a prestigious recognition given to outstanding entries that go above and beyond standard ranking ribbons. Out of 1,150 people entering, with only 170 selected for display, receiving this top-tier award was an amazing achievement that confirmed, “Yes, I am a real Artist!”

STOP!❗️DON'T PEAK❗️

YOU MUST GUESS THE CELEBRITIES AND WRITE THEM DOWN FIRST! Then between the Hearts, highlight what looks to be a blank area to reveal the answers! ❤️Page 1: BB KING, CARROT TOP, LIBERACE. Say WHAT? Celiac Disease is an illness caused by an immune reaction to eating gluten. Gluten is a protein found in foods containing wheat, barley or rye. If you have celiac disease, eating gluten triggers an immune response to the gluten protein in your small intestine. That is why we had such a long pause in our Artwork. When we finally figured out how to re-live our entire life by changing everything we ate, including we used on our bodies such as lotions and shampoos. People literally demanded we open a gluten-free bakery, and that is what we did? Starting in 2008 and continuing in Las Vegas from 2015 to 2024, We had GlutenZero Bakery open for nine years until Covid, Ukraine, and price gouging forced us to close. So now we're back doing all of our artwork with true passion and healthy physical strength. We still get glutened every so often, however we usually know what we've done to get sick and avoid it in the future. Research the Internet, as most people who have celiac disease or one of the many, many autoimmune's need to know and get gluten on their diet to feel better! It is estimated that there are 50M people with an undiagnosed autoimmune in the United States.

Whether it's how you look, your race, your religion or just your day-to-day living, there has been and will always be Bully's. I had done a lot of genealogy, but I didn't sense this was a relative visiting us. The following week, I received a call from Haley's grandma to tell me that Hailey, had passed away last week. Here comes the day of the “1993 Colorado River Country Fair,” and we see that Vanessa had won “Best of Show,” in the kids category and we were so excited! After the fair was over, mom went to pick up all of our artwork we had entered along with several 1st and 2nd place ribbons. Mom had looked and looked and looked for Vanessa’s piece and getting really sad as perhaps someone had accidentally taken it home in their stack of artwork. Finally, a Fair Representative came by and said, you look puzzled, is there something wrong? I said yes, I can’t find my daughters painting that was entered into the children’s category. The technique was first used for tea bowls, which were used in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. For this piece I followed the Western Raku process created by Paul Soldner, from the 1960's. Using his technique my Raku Tortoise Pot

develop exquisite coloring by removing the hot glowing Raku Pot from the kiln with special tongs that often left an esthetic scar and placing it in a container metal garbage can filled with combustible materials like sawdust, straw, or paper. Other manures were tried from the animals at the traveling circus. The animal caretakers were elated that I wanted some tiger and elephant dung!
